How to create the UpCooked newsletter
Instructions
Get it duplicated on MailChimp First
- Sign into MailChimp (here)
- If not already there, click 'All Campaigns' (left side) to bring up list of all our newsletters
- Look down the list. Notice many are 'sent'. But pay attention to the one's that are 'scheduled'. This tells us how many are loaded up ahead of us to go out. What you need to do is determine what date you should be loading up the next one for. To do that, look for the furthest one into the future that is 'scheduled' (IN BLUE) and see the date underneath the word 'scheduled'. Now, add one week onto that (which will be a friday) and WRITE DOWN what date that is! You'll need it in a bit.
- Replicate the very last one using the drop down indicated
Now step by step, update it!
- Edit the name first (at the top) to be the same as the recipe title. Each word starts with a capital. Click save.
- Ensure the 'To' field is going to "All subscribed contacts in the audience UpCooked"
- "From" should read "Ellie and Mark•team@upcooked.com"
- Edit the subject to read the same as the recipe title.
- Change the 'Preview Text'. Come up with a friendly one line that makes the recipe sound good or slightly exciting. Then click save.
- Under 'Send Time' click 'add send time'. 'Schedule a time' should be clicked.
- Then select the FRIDAY DATE that you wrote down earlier. This one is going out then so select that date under 'Delivery Date' calendar. Then click 'Send Time Optimization' and it will magically determine what time of day to send it out. Click SAVE.
Now for the Content
- Under Content click 'Edit Design'.
- Get used to the Blocks in the content editor. Go through them systematically to edit…
- Click on the 'edit' symbol (the pencil) to edit the title. Call it what the Recipe title is. Each word starts with a capital.
- Edit the image. Click 'replace' and Upload from the UpCooked folder the correct image. Ask Dad if you can't find it, but it should be in there under a sensible name.
- Open up the recipe on UpCooked and copy the URL. (Highlight it then COMMAND KEY + C.)
- On MailChimp under the image edit page that you're on, click 'LINK' and past your URL in (highlight the existing one, and paste right over it with COMMAND + V)
- Click 'insert' to save it.
- Edit the main message. Now you need our GPT to generate one! Click here.
- Click 'Go' and make sure that recipe URL is in your 'buffer' (copied). It should be. If not copy it again. Then paste it into the GPT and it'll write your message and 'tip'.
- Copy the message text and paste it over the existing MailChimp message, but DO NOT paste over this bit: Hi *|MMERGE1|*,That must stay as it puts the subsrcibers name in!
- Now, edit that message to suit. It needs to sound like me. Also, check the links. You know how to edit a link, so do it to the words "It's here" by pasting our new recipe link over the old one.
- Also, highlight some opening text in the message that mentions the recipe and turn that into a clickable link. To remove an old link, double click on it and click 'REMOVE LINK'.
- Repeat your editing to the 'Tip' further down. Ensure the word 'Tip' is in white.
- Finally update the 4 images with the last four newsletters. That will mean changing just one (the oldest). First, let's find what the last four were that went out. Click here to see.Note which one you must change, and click on the recipe to open it up. COPY the URL.
- Edit the 4 images by clicking on the block. Then change the image in the way you do (select the correct image by clicking REPLACE)
- Click 'Link' and paste your copied URL into it.
- Click save and close.
Send us a test version
- At top right of screen click 'Preview' then 'Send a test email'.
- Ensure it sends to fattaxi@gmail.com and bobbi.jade@gmai.com
- Click CONTINUE (top right) then SCHEDULE.
- Whatsapp Dad and ask him to check the email to confirm all OK.
- Invoice Dad 30p
