Banana Ice Cream
Quick, easy, healthy, and an amazing snack or dessert. It's naturally sweet and creamy and they freeze really well. You should start by making it with JUST BANANA and nothing else! Because it's amazing. But for variety we have plenty of ideas below for flavours. Note: there's a video of how to make this one too at the bottom.

Equipment
- Freezer-safe container (maybe an old ice cream tub?)
- Food processor or high-powered blender
- Spatula/spoon
- Knife
- Cutting board
Ingredients
- 4 Ripe bananas
- Optional toppings or mix-ins e.g. chocolate chips, nut butter, cinnamon, crumbled Cadbury's flake (see our ideas below)
Instructions
Prep in Advance
- Wash your hands
- Peel the bananas
- Slice the bananas into discs (half a cm thick or so – it's just to help them freeze and blend easily)
- Grab a freezer proof container with a lid (an old ice cream tub would do it)
- Freeze the banana slices for 2-3 hours (get them pretty solid but ideally not fully frozen or else they'll be harded to blend)
Making the ice cream
- Start by washing your hands
- Remove the frozen banana slices from the freezer
- If they are fully frozen, you could leave them out for 20-30 minutes or so to soften them a bit for blending
- Place the frozen banana slices into the food processor or blender
- Pulse the bananas until they form a crumbly mixture
- Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula/spoon
- Continue blending until the mixture is smooth and creamy – we mean really creamy
- With no flavourings at all – just banana – this is an amazing 'ice cream' we think. But, for added flavour, blend in your optional toppings or mix-ins such as a tablespoon of nut butter or a sprinkle of cinnamon or some chocoate chips (you can always crumble up any chocolate bar, maybe a Cadbury's flake!) See our notes for more ideas.
- Transfer the ice cream back into the freezer proof container, and put the lid on
- Freeze until solid (or solid enough for your liking. Obviously that means pulling it out and testing it every so often, which we think you can just about handle..)
- Serve the ice cream as it is, or with extra toppings, maybe a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, some more banana slices, and a stick of cinnamon if you want to feel particularly pleased with yourself!
